Erika Toyoda, MD
Dr. Toyoda moved to the United States from Osaka, Japan at the age of seven with her mother. She grew up in Rapid City and attended Stevens High School. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from South Dakota School of Mines & Technology where she graduated Summa Cum Laude.
She completed medical school at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine, after which she trained at a family medicine residency in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where her fellow residents and faculty elected her to be chief resident during her final year. Dr. Toyoda was a part of the SDSMA Health Leadership Institute in 2021. Dr. Toyoda is happy to be back home in the beautiful Black Hills and practice at the Medical Arts Clinic where she herself received care as a child.
Dr. Toyoda loves family medicine for a multitude of reasons including being able to care for people of all ages and forming long lasting bonds with her patients. She hopes to help celebrate her patients’ greatest accomplishments as well as be a source of comfort during their most difficult times.
Her hobbies include singing, drawing, painting, jewelry-making, travelling, and spending time with her beloved husband and her spoiled kitties.
