Joseph Hartford, OD

Optometry – Rapid City Medical Center

Dr. Joseph Hartford has been serving the vision needs of the Rapid City community for more than 30 years, with over two decades of that time spent at Rapid City Medical Center. As an optometrist, he provides comprehensive eye care for patients of all ages, including routine vision exams, prescriptions for glasses and contact lenses, and the diagnosis and management of common eye conditions.

A native of Pierre, South Dakota, Dr. Hartford was influenced early on by several local optometrists who inspired him to pursue the field. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from South Dakota State University before completing his Doctor of Optometry at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. Over the years, he has valued the opportunity to collaborate closely with fellow physicians and specialists at RCMC, offering patients a true “one-stop” approach to their care.

Outside of work, Dr. Hartford enjoys traveling with his family and spending time outdoors fishing, hunting, camping, or boating. He also loves cheering on his children in their many activities. And as a fun fact, while he may be passionate about sports and the outdoors, he admits he’s a terrible golfer.
