Emily Baertsch, DNP, FNP
Emily Baertsch, DNP-FNP, is a nurse practitioner with the Gastroenterology team at Rapid City Medical Center, providing patient-centered care focused on both diagnosis and long-term health management. A Rapid City native, Emily is proud to care for the community she has long called home.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a Coaching minor from the University of Minnesota, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from South Dakota State University. Emily went on to complete her Doctor of Nursing Practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner at South Dakota State University in 2019. While her early interests leaned toward sports medicine and coaching, she ultimately followed the example of her mother and aunt into nursing, discovering a passion for combining patient education, problem-solving, and disease management.
As a nurse practitioner, Emily values building strong relationships with her patients and enjoys helping them make meaningful lifestyle changes while addressing complex gastrointestinal and liver conditions.
Outside of work, Emily enjoys reading, cooking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends while exploring the Black Hills. She is also active in her children’s sports activities as a volunteer. A fun fact about Emily is that she has served as a high school gymnastics official for more than 20 years. A role that reflects her lifelong connection to athletics and community involvement.

Emily is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and graduate of South Dakota State University. She has been in practice since 2020.
Emily was born and raised in Rapid City. She initially attended college at the University of Minnesota where she graduated with honors in Kinesiology and a Coaching Minor. She then went on to receive a BSN from South Dakota State University and later returned to earn her Doctor of Nursing Practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner, graduating in 2019. She spent 11 years as a RN in the acute care setting, caring for patients across the lifespan with a special focus in end-of-life care, organ donation, and hospital operations. She joined Gastroenterology in 2020 where she enjoys seeing general gastroenterology patients and subspecializes in liver disease. Her passion is to help people live their best lives using a personalized approach to medical care. Outside of the office, she spends time with her husband and 2 children enjoying life in the Black Hills. She is also active in high school gymnastics and has been a high school official since 2005.
