Spencer Steffen, MD

Dr. Steffen is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, a member of the National Catholic Bioethics Center, the Catholic Medical Association, and the Wilderness Medical Society. His professional interests in addition to the comprehensive outpatient care of individuals and families include pediatrics, fertility awareness-based gynecologic care, medical weight loss, urgent care, office-based procedures, point-of-care ultrasound, aviation medicine, and wilderness/low-resource medicine.

Dr. Steffen grew up on a horse property in Crofton, NE and spent summers riding in Custer and camping with his boy scout troop in the Hills. He attended Creighton University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in biology in 2014, then attended the University of Nebraska College of Medicine and graduated in 2018. Dr. Steffen completed his family medicine residency in Lincoln, NE in 2021.

Dr. Steffen married his wife Shelby in 2015 after their first year of medical school. Shelby Steffen, MD is also a family physician and will be joining the RCMC Medical Arts Clinic. The couple has three children and are happy to call Rapid City their new home. They look forward to getting more involved in their local parish and community as well as getting to explore western SD when hiking, mountain biking, skiing, camping, hunting, and fishing.
