Over $9,000 Raised for Colon Cancer Awareness Month

The Rapid City Medical Center along with The Endoscopy Center hosted the opens in a new window2017 Bottoms Up 5K Run/Walk and raised over $9,000 for the American Cancer Society. Funds will benefit colon cancer research in western South Dakota. The race, held on March 11, had 136 participants racing along the Rapid City bike path from Founders Park to Sioux Park and back. Participants gathered at Lost Cabin Beer Company for a post race celebration in honor of colon cancer awareness month. Lost Cabin along with Smokin’ Hot Catering donated a percentage of the proceeds on Saturday to the cause as well.

The Bottoms Up 5K supports the opens in a new windowAmerican Cancer Society’s “80% by 2018” initiative. This initiative aims to increasing screening rates to 80% by 2018 with the goal of preventing 277,000 new cases of colon cancer and 203,000 deaths within 20 years, according to the American Cancer Society.
